Hazmat, ORM-D, and Limited Quantity Alaska and Hawaii Service Restrictions

FedEx Ground does not accept hazardous materials, ORM-D1 or Limited Quantity packages destined for Alaska or Hawaii, or any packages prepared specifically for the air mode of travel under Title 49 of the Code of Federal Regulations (CFR), the International Air Transportation Association (IATA) or the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) regulations. And because reaching Alaska and Hawaii requires air travel for certain legs of those routes, this restriction means you can't use FedEx Ground to ship your hazardous material or ORM-D, Limited Quantity packages.

However, FedEx Express accepts shipments prepared for air travel under 49 CFR, IATA and ICAO regulations, which require specific packaging, labeling and processing for hazardous materials and dangerous goods packages shipped to Alaska and Hawaii.2

If you use FedEx to ship hazardous materials, ORM-D or Limited Quantity to Alaska and Hawaii, you must ship them via FedEx Express, not FedEx Ground.
